Historical Narrative: 

Mary Elizabeth Sweeney purchased this property on July 15, 1909. Husband John Sweeney purchased a second parcel on Jan. 22, 1914 which was then transferred to Mary on Mar. 16, 1916.

Mary Sweeney, wife of John Sweeney, had purchased #5 Clarks Court (Hartigan Ct.) from Justin Clark on Aug. 12, 1904. John Sweeney was born Mar. 1867 in MA son of James and Mary Sweeney. John was a tinsmith when he married on May 6, 1886 in Lawrence to Mary Elizabeth Young b. Nov. 1869 in Bath, Maine dau. of Mathew & Elizabeth Young. John transitioned to plumber. They live in Lawrence, then moved to Exeter, NH before removing to Andover. John & Mary had six children: Mary F. b. May 1888, John J. Jr. b. Apr. 1890, Annie b. Mar. 1892 all in MA and Catherine b. Feb. 1894, Margaret E. b. Nov. 1895 and Elizabeth b. Mar. 1899 in NH.

Son John Jr. would also become a plumber. Daughters, Mary F., Annie and Catherine were telephone operators. Catherine who become Supervisor of the N.E. T. & T. Co. office in Andover in the Musgrove building. The Sweeney’s owned the home for 12 years then moved to 32 - 34 Chestnut St. after selling to Daniel Hartigan on Sept.24, 1916.

Mary Sweeney died on April 27, 1945 and husband John later transferred ownership to daughter Margaret Ellen Sweeney who held the property until 1969. Margaret transferred the deed to her nephews, John M. McVey, Edward McVey and Paul McVey on October 1, 1969. All were the sons of her sister Catherine Sweeney McVey. The Sweeney family were owners for sixty three years.

The Andover Group, business partners, Larry L. Larsen, Joseph A. Harrington and Rev. Otis A. Maxfield then acquired the property on January 7, 1972 with the McVeys. In May 1977 Larry L. Larsen held sole ownership of the property. Larry & Nancy co-owned until 1986 when selling to Moros Realty Trust, Laurence J. Rossi Trustee.

The property is now held by Bartnut Realty, LLC and is the law offices of Morris - Rossi - Hayes.
