119 Lowell Street

This was an Inn when Chandler Circle was road to the ferry across the Merrimack River, early 19th century. Owner was fined for serving liquor to Indians.

This property was once part of a larger 11 acre 100 poles parcel that was owned by Richard Trow, a carpenter. Richard sold the property to Capt. Daniel Trow, a bricklayer, for $1050. on June 12, 1812. The first parcel of 11 acres 100 poles contained the dwelling house and other buildings. Two other parcels of 6 acres and 116 poles near Abiel Jones house were included. The homestead lot extended to Chandler Circle on the east and Artemus Brown's land to the west.

Captain Daniel Trow was born in 1777 married Hannah C. Luscomb, intention recorded May 5, 1818. Children; Daniel Lamson b. Aug. 6, 1818, Hannah D. b. June 17, 1820, Jerusha L. b. Oct. 10, 1824, Martha b. Feb. 19, 1826, and Charles bp. Sept. 6, 1829. Captain Daniel died on June 10, 1849. His wife Hannah C. died Apr. 3, 1853. Prior to this property Daniel Trow owned a farm on High Plain Road, now #278, "Lake View Farm".
Daniel L's father had conveyed the property to him on May 26, 1846.

Daniel L. Trow was a shoe maker (cordwainer) married at age 29 on May 4, 1848 to Phebe Chandler Grant, b. July 30, 1826, age 21, an operative, daughter of Charles & Mary Grant. Children; George Abbot born Mar. 1, 1849, C. Edward Trow b. Apr. 6, 1854 - d. 1856, D. Francis b. Mar. 7, 1856 - d. 1860. The 1850 ANdover Valuation Schedule lists Daniel L. Trow's property; Dwelling house $600, Shed & Shoe shop $100, 13 acres land $260 and Farm Stock $36. His wife Phebe died July 26, 1889 and Daniel L. Trow died May 7, 1897. They are interred in West Parish Garden Cemetery.

The property was sold to William Alfred Trow by Daniel L. on May 16, 1893. William was born in 1868. William's first wife was Amy Frances Battles and the deed was placed in both names on Nov. 2, 1901. In Feb. 1920 Amy inherited 2 parcels of land which included the house at 31 Lowell St. and a parcel behind from her sister of which both had inherited from Otis Battles in 1898. These properties were then consolidated into one deed on Dec. 14, 1921, lot 3 being the homestead parcel at #119 Lowell St. of 11 acres. Amy Frances Trow died on May 12, 1929

William A. Trow later married Florence Gardner Bowes and the property was placed in both names on Nov. 23, 1936. In 1937 William A. Trow made a preliminary study to develop the land into 34 house lots. They parceled off and built a new home next door at 117 Lowell. Another home was built behind 117 on Chandler Circle. In 1947 they divided the property, setting off the old Trow homestead and deeded the property to Earl A. & Charlotte (Bowes) Young, Florence's daughter, on Feb. 24, 1949.

Earl & Charlotte Young later sold the old Trow place to King & Isabelle R. MacRury of Dixfield, Maine on Aug. 1, 1950. The Youngs then moved into the new house on Chandler Circle.

The MacRury family held the property for nine years selling to Allan J. & Nancy Lee Byer on June 12, 1959.
Eugene C. & Mary Louise Graves purchased the house on May 4, 1962. A deed transfer through Natalie P. Stokham to Eugene C. Graves & Mary Louise Williams-Graves on May 23, 1972, then to Eugene C. Graves on June 27, 1980.

Paul W. & Elisabeth G. Winchell owned next on July 1, 1981 but sold 8 months later to James M. & Michele J. Bourgeau - Sempere on Feb. 26, 1982. James M. Sempere quit claimed the property on Sept. 9, 2003 Michele J. Bourgeau – Sempere the owner of record in 2015.

1900 -- William A. Trow taxed for house,shed , barn at site.
