Historical Narrative:
The land of this property and to the east end of the street was once part of the "Ye Ames Tavern Inn", later known as the Foster's Tavern, Mayo's Tavern, Ward's Tavern, Eagle Hotel and last the Elm House Hotel and Livery Stables. This parcel most likely had a livery barn or stable on it during the early 19th century. A birds eye view of Andover, published in 1882 and an 1895 photograph of the Musgrove building when it was opened clearly shows a structure on this spot. It is not yet know if the building shown in the period image was razed, moved off site or rehabbed into the wonderful Queen Anne style facade that now adorns this building. Most of the original ornamentation and store front windows remain intact.
