Historical significance: Haggett's Pond named for Moses Haggitt (spelling in old records)- was originally Blanchard's Pond. Samuel Blanchard bought land from Henry Jaquith (Jacques) and Marie Groves. Blanchard was a selectman and owned vast acreages in West Andover, and had a Garrison house (1686-1725). He moved to Andover, 1683, but owned land here in 1662.

Capt. Charles Furbush Jr. born in Andover on May 10, 1736, son of Charles & Margaret (Lovejoy) Furbush, married April 1, 1755 to Sarah Corey b. 1734 in Chelmsford, MA. Charles & Sarah had ten children and it appears that they were all baptized at South Church, some together on the same day. Birth years are calculated on death age as given in AVR. Sarah b. 1755 - bpt. July 22, 1764, Mary b. 1763, Charles b. 1757, Simeon b. 1760, (Simeon, Mary & Charles bpt. July 22, 1764) Lucy bpt. Oct. 14, 1764, Dorcus bpt. Oct. 12, 1766, Anna bpt. Oct. 16, 1768 and Jedidiah b. 1770, bp. July 1, 1770 - d. Jan. 1787 age 17yrs., Jonathan b. 1771 - d. Jan. 16, 1788 age 17 yrs. and Solomon b. 1776 – d. Oct. 28, 1788 age 28yrs. Captain Charles Furbush commanded the Andover Company at Bunker Hill.

Son Simeon Furbush b. abt. 1860, a yeoman, served during the Revolution as a drummer, age 16, with the 27th Mass., Col. Bridges Regiment and in his father’s company in Aug. 1775. Simeon married on May 11, 1786 to Rachel Harnden b. 1765 of Wilmington, MA. Simeon purchased land from his father for 400 pounds on Jan. 16, 1787 rec. Mar. 6, 1795. The first parcel contained 100 acres on both sides of the road including buildings. A second pasture lot of 18 acres was added on June 29, 1790 at the end of a lane near his father’s house. Simeon’s father died tragically on Feb. 11, 1795. AVR states “murdered in his bed by his negro man.” His mother Sarah died on Feb. 7, 1804.

Simeon and Rachel had one daughter Rachel b. Nov. 6, 1786. Simeon and Rachel join the South Church on April 28, 1805. Their daughter Rachel joined in June 1812. Rachel married Rev. Horatio Bardwell on July 11, 1815. Rev. Horatio was b. Nov. 3, 1788 in Belchertown, MA, Gradated Dartmouth College and Andover Theological Seminary in 1814. He spent six years as one of the first missionaries to India. They had ten children of which five survived to adulthood. Bardwell was called to a church in Holden MA in 1823 and moved to Oxford, MA in 1824. Simeon Furbush died on July 1, 1835 age 45.

The 1850 Andover Valuation lists Widow Rachel Furbush; Dwelling house & other building $1500, barn $275, 28 acres east of road $560, 65 acres west of road $1625, 10 acres North Wood lot $324 = 103 acres total value $4284. Simeon Bardwell’s Farm Stock $200. The 1850 Census lists Rachel age 85, her grandson Simeon F. Bardwell age 28, as head of the house, his wife Almira, two daughters, two male laborers and two girls; Anne C Merrill age 14 and Clara Richardson age 13 residing in the home. Rachel died on May 2, 1853 and is interred at South Parish Cemetery. Her daughter Rachel Bardwell administered her estate. Grandson Simeon F. Bardwell got the farm.

Simeon Furbush Bardwell b. May 13, 1822 in Andover married on March 16, 1843 in Andover to Almira E. Plummer b. 1822 in Salem, NH dau. of Jesse & Sarah (Nichols) Plumber. They joined West Parish Church on May 1, 1845. They had four children: Francilla Jennette b. Sept. 2, 1845 – d. 1867, Elizabeth H. b. Oct. 2, 1849, Simeon F. Jr. b. May 9, 1857 and Annie Carruth b. 1858. The 1860 Valuation lists Simeon F. Bardwell, house, barn, 28 acres and 65 acres = $3025. Farm stock $263.

Simeon Bardwell died on July 8, 1881 and is interred at West Parish Cemetery. The farm was inherited by his wife and three surviving children who sold to William Hardy on June 23, 1882. William Hardy owned the neighboring farm north of Bardwell. His son Frederick Lincoln Hardy would later own the farm. Fred was born May 15, 1865 son of William & Susan (Robinson) Hardy. Fred married Aug. 12, 1893 in Tewksbury to Alice E. Twiss, b. 1871 dau of Alvin S. & Martha H. (Loker) Twiss. Fred and Alice had two children; Frederick Charles b. Nov. 2, 1895 and Martha. Fred grew produce on the truck farm.

The 1920 Census lists the family living with the Twiss family in Tewksbury. Fred was assessed $2900 for the farm in Andover, House, barn, shed, hen houses, 34 acres on Haggetts Pond Rd. and 41 acres in the Bailey District. Fred died in 1927. His son Frederick Charles and wife Marion E. (Cate) Hardy inherit the farm on July 20, 1927.

Fred C & Marion had two daughters, Hazel M. Hardy and Shirlie I. Hardy, and one son, Frederick Douglas Hardy. The Hardy ownership ended after 57 years on Mar. 23, 1939 when they sold to Renwyck W. & Olga Henderson. Renwyck was a farmer and in 1943 is listed as the manager of the Andover Consumers Co-op. a much loved stockholder supermarket in Andover. In 1943 the Co-op moved from Barnard St to 68 Main Street. Renwyck and Olga had two sons, Renwyck Donald b. 1927 and Robert Harold b. 1929. Renwych died August 27, 1953. Olga held the farm until 1958 then selling to John & Ruth Bolton Jr. on Dec. 4, 1958. Bolton sold the home to Henry M. & Willimina Sewell on Dec. 10, 1958.
