Historical Narrative:

This home at 267 Andover Street was built in 2005 by Douglas Ahern, contractor, builder and president of Jeffco Inc. The former house on the this parcel was razed to allow for its construction. The property is located in the Ballardvale Local Historic District and therefor subject to review by the local commission.

The former home was a small cottage house with a rear addition that may have been a separate home at one time and moved to the site. This area of Ballardvale was once known as "Preston's Plains" and later just "The Plains". Much of the land is now owned by the town of Andover and is the site of the South Elementary School. The Plains extended all the way to High Vale Street. From 1837 to 1848 the Andover - Wilmington Railroad cut a path across the Plains just west of this property. The home next door was the Ballardvale Depot.

Gardner Warren sold an extensive amount of property to George Elllis on Aug. 14, 1854. Ten years later Tenney & Little, George J. Tenney & Samuel Little purchased the land holdings on Apr. 27, 1864. This parcel can be found on leaf 38 of the deed in book 666 leafs 37-40.
Rebecca Boynton, wife of Richard Boynton purchased this lot from Tenney & Little on Apr. 20, 1867 as stated in a later deed. John Morrison then purchased the lot on Aug. 15, 1872 for $550. No mention of buildings in the deed.

John Morrison held the property until his death in 1882. His estate was administered by Executors Elizabeth Morrison and John W. Morrison in September 1882.
Rebecca Boynton, now a widow, purchased back the property on Sept. 8, 1882. With Boynton's death, Ovell Aston of Swampscott, her heir through her Will then sold the property to William E. & Millicent M. Matthews on July 25, 1910. Mathews owned for 14 years.
