This home style was used several times in the building of Shawsheen Village and may have been built from plans used in the village.
Historical Narrative:
This parcel lot was once part of the Henry A. Bodwell estate at #37 Maple. Bodwell purchased his parcel in 1883 from John H. Flint which included all the land on the east side of Maple Ave from #29 to Walnut St. Parcels were sold off by Bodwell and his heirs. This lot was a portion of lot #37 until 1936 when John Fleming sub-divided his property on Feb. 4, 1936. The lot was sold to John F. & Susie M. Loye on May 2, 1936.
John Francis Loye was born Aug. 24, 1888 in Lawrence, MA son of Michael & Mary (Nolan) Loye. John graduated from high school and became a Machinist. He joined the Navy in 1919, worked as a machinist. He retired on May 3, 1921 after in injury. John married on Aug. 26, 1935 in Nashua, NH to Susie M. (Stevenson) Golden, b. 1896 in Lawrence, dau. of Thomas & Margaret (Callaghan) Stevenson. Susie was a mender in the mills. They had one son John Jr. who would later graduate from West Point Military Academy in 1950. On April 22, 1944 Loye sold the home to George F. & Eva Symonds who owned five years then selling to Grace M. Whitworth.
