95 Chestnut Street

Historical Narrative: 

This home was first owned by Frederick S. Boutwell b. in 1865 in Andover son of Samuel H. & Alice Jane (Trull) Boutwell. Frederick received his early education at Punchard Free School and later attended M.I.T. In 1890 he was hired at the Andover Savings Bank and in 1904 became the bank treasurer. In 1935 he was promoted to vice-president of the bank. Fred was instrumental in the building of the new Andover Savings Bank building in 1924, now the home of TD Bank at the corner of Main and Chestnut Streets.

Frederick Boutwell was also a director of the Andover National Bank and the Andover Press Ltd. He was a Trustee of the Library and of the Punchard School. For nearly 50 years he was treasurer of the West Parish Church and a member of the Andover Grange. Frederick died on Feb. 16, 1939. He left two brothers Arthur T. and Winthrop S. and a sister Alice J. Boutwell.

Frederick sold his home to David J. & Elizabeth O’Connell on Oct. 5, 1931. The O'Connell family owned the property for 46 years.
