This house was one of the first to be construct on Cuba Street. Cuba St. was laid out between 1829 & 1833.
The house was the home of Isaac & Ann (Holt) Howarth. They had three children; Ann E., Isabella and child who died of dysentery on Sept. 5, 1828. His wife Ann died on Sept. 22, 1843, at age 41 of an apparent suicide. Isaac remarried to Nancy Morse; their intention recorded on Feb. 4, 1846. His two daughters married; Ann on Aug. 19, 1847, to James Crooper of Oxford, MA son of Edmund Crooper. Isabella married on Sept. 25, 1842, to Samuel Anderson.

After the death of Isaac, the daughters inherit the property. On April 8, 1854, James & Ann Crooper sells a "messuage" of land [Dwelling house with out-buildings and land] for $2000. to Samuel & Isabella Anderson. It included 8 acres, formerly owned by Issac Howarth, deceased, in Abbott Village on the west side of the road to the new School House. viz Easterly by sd. street, Southerly by land of Amos Abbott and Herman Abbott Jr., Westerly by land of Amos Abbott & Dec. Peter Smith, Northerly by land of P. Smith and land of Jacob Chickering, eight acres more or less..."

Samuel Anderson was born July 21, 1816, in Ballymoney, Co. Antrim, Ireland, son of James and Hanna Anderson. Sam was a Carder in the mill. Isabella and Samuel had nine children, seven survive to adulthood; James J. b. May 8, 1844, in VT, Ann L. b. May 5, 1845, Jane b. June 1847 d. July 2, 1847, Isabella Sarah b. Oct. 3, 1848, Ellen E. b. 1852, Samuel W. b. Nov. 16, 1853, d. Sept. 22, 1854, John S. b. 1856, Laura Jane b. 1858, and Lucinda Mary b. 1862.

In the Census 1860, Sam is a Carder, son James J. age 17 a farm laborer, daughter Ann L. 15 Shoe stitcher.
The May 1,1865 Mass. State Census has the Andersons in Groveland, MA. Sam now 48 is still a carder, James, shoemaker and Ann a weaver who died on Oct. 23, 1865. By 1870 the Andersons have returned to Andover and Sam is now the Overseer of the Carding Dept. in the Smith & Dove Mill. Daughter Isabella S. age 21 is a milliner, Ellen 18 works in the Threadmill, (Smith & Dove) and John, Lora and Lucinda are attending school.

Samuel Anderson experienced a severe shock of paralysis on Friday evening and is considered in a critical condition. He was interred at Christ Church Cemetery. Isabella died on Oct. 1, 1898 at age 82 of senility.

Daughter Isabella Sarah Anderson married John P. Wakefield and the property is sold by the family to their sister and John for $2208.34 or 5/6 share of the estate.
