Architectural Description:
This fieldstone building, is one of only a 20 structures in town to use stone as the primary building material for its construction.
Historical Narrative:
This parcel at 32 Bellevue Rd. is made up of two separate lots and was once part of a larger field of 17.844 acres that were connected to the home next door at 36 Bellevue Rd. The original open field was sub-divided in the 1960s to create Patricia Circle on the east and house lots along Osgood Rd. on the western boarder of the property.
The field-stone garage building still standing today is said to have been part of the chicken barn. The 1920 Andover Valuation schedule lists; Murton H. & Bessie B. Spellman; Bellevue Rd. House, $500, Barn $100, Henhouse $100, 17 acres $500 = $1200 assessment. Spellman purchased the property at 36 Bellevue on Oct. 8, 1917.
Joseph Hird, wife Emma purchased the property on May 3, 1883 and it is most likely the the stone structure was built during their ownership as the building has been dated about 1888.
