Queen Anne style - overhanging 2d & 3d stories; gabled and pedimented pavilions centered on each side; pediment & columned front porch; front and side bay windows; rear porch; stained glass.

Themes - Architectural and Community development. Sophisticated, restrained design. Play of light and shade, movement of planes very important; emphasis on interior space.
This land was once part of the Peter D. Smith estate "Forest Hills". Deed references lot near the gardener's barn. The lot was purchased from Peter Dove Smith in April 1898 by Arthur Trull Boutwell who had the Queen Anne style home built. Both Smith & Boutwell were active members in West Parish Church. Arthur worked as a Chemist at the Smith & Dove Manufacturing Co. in Andover, makers of linen thread and cloth.
Arthur Trull Boutwell was born May 4, 1868 in Andover, son of Samuel Hyde & Alice Jane (Trull) Boutwell. He grew up on the Boutwell Farm on Haggetts Pond Rd. Arthur graduated from Phillips Academy in in 1887 and Amherst College in 1891. Arthur married on Oct. 12, 1898 in Oswego, NY to Susan Niles Molther b. Oct. 12, 1870 in Pulasly, NY dau. of John R. & Harriett A. (Niles) Molther. Arthur & Susan had three children; Jenny Trull b. 1900, Rachel Niles b. Nov. 17, 1904 and Samuel Arthur b. June 10, 1909. In 1928 the Smith & Dove Manf. Co. was sold to the Ludlow Company and the mill in Andover closed. Arthur continued to work for the Ludlow Association until his retirement. Arthur and wife Susan N. (Molther) owned the property for 58 years. Arthur died in Sept. 1940 and his wife Susan on July 17, 1956. Both are interred in the Boutwell family lot at West Parish Garden Cemetery. Son Samuel A. Boutwell was the executor of the estate and sold to Peter & Elinor Olney in October 1956. The home was then purchased by Stephen R. & Ruthy A. Olney in Jan. 1992 who continue as the owners in 2013.
