Architectural Description:
New construction on lot in 2008
Historical Narrative:
This property was once owned by the Trustees of Phillips Academy and was sub - divided into four separate house lots in April 1954. On April 1, 1955 the Academy Trustees sold lot #3 to Alfred Dudley Nicoll. The property was vacant at the time of purchase.
Alfred Dudley Nicoll was born on Oct. 8, 1896 in Arbroath, Scotland, son of John F. & Margaret A. Nicoll. Alfred immigrated to Andover at age nine with his family arriving in Boston on Oct. 10, 1907 on the S.S. Ivernia. His father John and brother Claude arrived earlier. They first lived on Cuba St. John's father died in December 1922 and the four sons supported their mother.
Alfred married in 1933 to Elizabeth A. b. 1897 and they had one daughter Margaret A. b. 1941. Alfred worked for Phillips Academy as a custodian and wife Elizabeth as a kitchen worker at the Commons on the campus. They lived 162 Highland Road prior to moving here in 1953. It is possible that the house on Highland Rd. owned by Phillips Academy where they lived was moved here and purchased by Nicoll. The 1953 directory lists them at 164 Highland Rd. which is no longer listed in 1961. Nicoll sold to Dennis C & Gail R. Coyne on Nov. 7, 1980. Alfred Nicoll died on Dec. 31,1986 and is interred at Spring Grove Cemetery. Coyne sold to Charles K. Petit in 1985.
The property changed owners several times from 1980 - 2006.
Michael Ristuccia, a local developer, purchased the property from Derek & Melanie Weitz in Feb. 2006. Ristuccia placed the property into M.R. Restoration LLC on June 24, 2007. The house was lifted off the foundation and moved to #33 High Street where it was to be placed in the rear of the property. The house stood on a trailer for several months. The plans fell through and the house was ultimately razed.
The current house was constructed on the lot at 120 Salem St. in 2008.
