Historical Narrative:
This property was once part of the Joseph Low estate at 70 North Main St. which included all the land now used as the Town Yard, Lewis St. and Buxton Ct.. After the death of their father Joseph on Dec. 10, 1853 the property went to his widow and daughters. Mary A. Low and her sister Emily W. Low sold this parcel of land to John Collins on May 3, 1875. With the deed included a provision that Collins build a fence along the boarder of the Low and Collins land.
The property seems to have remained in the Collins family hands for 105 years before being sold in 1980.
John Collins and wife Elizabeth held the property until their deaths, at which time the property went to their children. John C., William Collins, M. Louise Gesing and Grace E. Cavanaugh all heirs on Feb. 18, 1933. Grace E. and husband James got the property on Oct. 7, 1936 . After Grace died the estate went to heir Roland F. Gesing via probate and the estate was sold to Maurice & Judith Raymond on Sept. 16, 1980.
Paul F. & Andrea B. Bekkenhuis purchased the property from Larry & Nancy Larson on Sept. 12, 1985. The residence was then converted into a funeral home. Richard C. Dewhirst purchased the funeral home on Dec. 30, 1997 and it continues to operate under the deed ownership of L & L Realty Corp. on June 18, 2007.
